Project #3FH6

First used in 1951, soil cement slope protection has proven itself as a durable, safe, and economical alternative to the use of riprap on dam and reservoir embankments. Today, soil cement plays an important role in preserving and protecting our nation’s most important natural resource – water.

Project #3FH6 – a three year water reclamation project in South Florida – centered around the construction of a stormwater treatment area designed to capture runoff from the local basin and cleanse it through a settling process before returning it to the surrounding natural estuary. To protect the manmade reservoir’s earthen embankment, 300,000 cubic yards of soil cement was used to line the earthen slope.

Jobsite Equipment Planning

To meet the contractor’s high volume production needs, RWC Equipment Leasing paired two Rapidmix 400C mobile pugmills with two radial stacking conveyors. Using the conveyors, a continuous flow of soil cement was transferred from each Rapidmix plant to a centralized surge bin then discharged into haul trucks. Six portable storage pigs were positioned onsite to ensure an endless supply of cement. Proper planning made it easy for semitrucks to enter the jobsite and refill the storage pigs with cement on a regular basis.

Fast setup, self-contained power, and easy transport – as well as speed and cost efficiency – made Rapidmix a wise choice for Project #3FH6’s remote location with limited resources.
